IWC Communities Christmas break-up
The IWC Communities team hosted its 2019 breakup following another great year.
They marked the occasion with a small feast, inviting community members and staff to get together to celebrate the progress and healing made over the year.
Over the festive season Communities were the driver for IWC’s Christmas giveaway, working in partnership with organisations like Knitting for Brisbane’s Needy and private citizens to distribute gifts, sanitary products and other important goods to those in need.
IWC provided many other supports through its Communities team in 2019. This included Healing Circle Work, an initiative which saw almost 20 participants successfully complete a cycle of healing across communities in Gayndah and Bundaberg. This program, started by Aunty Cheri Yavu-Kama-Harathunian, is set to continue into 2020.
Cultural outings, Gentle Footprings (aimed at local youth) as well as the Men’s Recovery Group and Women’s Recovery Groups, will also continue into 2020.
Communities were also involved in the Kepnock SHS Wellbeing program, Culla Jubba Tumbitum (a follow-on to Healing Circle Work), Flourish Family Fun Day and various youth support groups over the course of 2019.
Overall the program supported well over 100 community members and their families in 2019.
IWC wishes everybody a very happy new year, and encourages anybody looking to improve their health and wellbeing to visit the Complex at 184 Barolin St or call 1300 492 492.
