Reconciliation prize-winners announced!

PRIZE-winners from this year’s Reconciliation Week celebrations have been selected, and IWC wishes to congratulate our winners.

As part of the week, colourers were invited to decorate the image of the tree on display in the Guava Café (pictured) on paper. Some lovely designs shone through – particularly in the 8-12 years category – that put unique twists on the tree’s aesthetic.

There were also a range of great responses from the community about what reconciliation meant to them, which were much appreciated by IWC.

For Carlos, whose response saw him take home the IWC prize hamper, Reconciliation was about making “one’s views or beliefs compatible with others,” “so white people and aboriginal people can work together better.”

Bundaberg South Students Tynieka and Caitlin won the colouring competition in the 3-7 years and 8-12 years categories respectively, with Donna Krebs taking out the Seniors category.

The competitions were part of our Reconciliation Week celebrations, which saw IWC host a range of small activities on June 3 for the general community with Indigenous themes.

Stalls and displays were set up for the public in the week leading up to the celebration, with IWC supporters donating artworks to display alongside the artefacts and books.

IWC hopes to see the art packs given out to our colouring competition winners put to good use, and thanks all those who took part in 2019.
